This review assessed 13 projects related to nitrogen-fixation in farming systems that ACIAR funded between 1984 and 2001. This work involved many countries, including nine years work in Pakistan. Optimising the performance of the Rhizobium bacteria in the root nodules of legumes/pulses is crucial. 2006
