Policy research drives market reforms

This project focused on three main crops, chilli, tomato and mango, to investigate existing marketing arrangements, assess domestic and foreign market potential and identify pathways to address main problems. It then formulated an appropriate marketing policy reforms programme, drawing on both Pakistani and international reform experiences

A value chain approach links what happens at farm or factory to consumers buying products in the marketplace. Bridging the gulf between smallholders and the marketplace provides a path to improved livelihoods for smallholders. ACIAR’s value chain lessons from Pakistan and guides to value chain thinking are highlighted.
