This review of ACIAR’s PRB research confirmed findings of an increase in crop production of 15–30%, a decrease in irrigation water use of 30–50%, a decrease in input costs, and an increase in profitability of at least 25%, from Permanent Raised Beds. PRB also: improves soil structure; prevents waterlogging; improves water penetration; and minimises salinization. Nevertheless, patchy extension support and inadequate machines (reliability and cost) were barriers to adoption at that time. 2014
