Promoting CASI understanding through the CASI AgMOOC

Tamara Jackson

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) are partnering with CIMMYT to deliver the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) covering Conservation Agriculture-based Sustainable Intensification (CASI), with the aim of providing a comprehensive overview of CASI to an audience ranging from farmers to extension officers and policy makers. MOOCs are a popular way of providing high quality education to thousands of people at a time, able to be accessed from anywhere, and usually free.

The BAU media team are well qualified to host this course, and have been recognised for their ICT based e-Agricultural extension programs, recently receiving a National Award for e-Governance for their work in enhancing technology and information delivery.

The course is supported by the Sustainable and Resilient Farming Systems Intensification (SRFSI project), and will cover topics of conservation agriculture principles, mechanization for CASI, agronomic management, challenges and benefits, and business models to support the CASI system. It will run for six weeks, starting on February 12th. The course materials will remain available on the AgMOOCs website at the completion of the course, and can be accessed any time by enrolling here.
