Welcome to the project Landcare — an agricultural extension and community development model at district and national scale in Fiji, funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, the Australian Government’s specialist agricultural research-for-development agency in the
foreign aid program.

Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research

The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) is an Australian Government statutory agency in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio. ACIAR forms part of the Australian Government's overseas aid program, with the mandate to amplify the impact of Australia’s capabilities in agricultural science by brokering and funding agricultural research for development partnerships in developing countries. The agency works with public and private research institutions to improve the productivity and sustainability of agricultural systems and the resilience of food systems in partner countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD)

DOST-PCAARRD is tasked to provide a unified and focused direction for agricultural research in the Philippines. The Council coordinates, evaluates, and monitors national research and development efforts in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources. It also allocates government and external funds for R&D and generates resources to support its program. As a core partner in the evaluation, development and scaling out of the Livelihood Intervention through Facilitated Extension (LIFE) model, PCAARRD is supporting the tripartite collaboration of the Landcare LIFE model exchange with Fiji.

RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia

RMIT is a global university of technology and design and Australia's largest tertiary institution. The University enjoys an international reputation in practical outcome-oriented research. In particular, the College of Design and Social Context undertakes research and capacity building on key areas of social change and social policy.

Fiji National University (FNU)

FNU’s College of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry offers programmes in agriculture, fisheries, forestry and veterinary science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A team of FNU researchers will support the project in areas including agriculture extension, economics, cropping, agroforestry and soils. FNU also hosts the ACIAR Pacific Agriculture Scholarships and Support and Climate Resilience (PASS-CR) Program.

Fiji Ministry of Agriculture

Fiji Ministry of Agriculture’s mission is to create an enabling environment that accelerates sustainability, economic opportunities, climatic viability, food and nutrition security for all Fijians. The Ministry Land Use and Extension Units are partnering with the project to build community resilience, protect natural resources and open partnerships for funding and knowledge sharing.

Tei Tei Taveuni

Tei Tei Taveuni is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of sustainable farming practices on the island of Taveuni in Fiji. The group is focused on sustainable farming and soil regeneration, food security and sustainable livelihood and conservation and environmental awareness. Tei Tei is the lead project implementing partner on Taveuni.

Global Landcare

Global Landcare (GL) is an Australian based not-for profit organisation that supports Landcare around the globe through training, fundraising and project support, capacity building, networking and communication and advocacy activities. Landcare is a community-based movement that supports improving natural resource management for both conservation and production outcomes

Landcare Foundation of the Philippines Inc (LFPI)

LFPI is a not-for-profit NGO which has a goal of improving the well-being of poor farming communities through conservation farming and natural resource management. It is the lead agency for the development of the Landcare approach in the Philippines. and was a core implementing partner in an eight-year ACIAR funded research project that adapted the Landcare approach to the broader needs of conflict-vulnerable farming communities of central and western Mindanao. The LIFE extension model was the result of that work.

University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB)

UPLB, a public funded academic, research and extension institution, is one of the seven constituent universities of the University of the Philippines System. It is also the national agricultural University in the Philippines with a strong track record in research. It has almost exclusive expertise (within the Philippines public research sector) in agricultural economics.

University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin)

UP Mindanao is an autonomous University (one of six) within the same premier public sector university system as UPLB. By being based in and around conflict zones, it has particular expertise and ample experience in researching (and operating) within these zones. With its previous partnership with Hiroshima University on peace building efforts and in line with its research thrust on Mindanao studies, UP Mindanao is geared towards peace and conflict research.
